UFo Soars into Roaring Knob for the "King of the Knob" on September 6 By Judy Gower
Markleysburg, PA Sep 03, 2008 - The Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex will host their first-ever Super Late Model tour event with the next UFo Race Championship event presented by Comcast. The Ed & Scott Nicholson Memorial “King of the Knob” will pay $5,500 to win on September 6 at the 3/8 mile oval.
The UFo Super Late Models will compete in a full championship racing program
including extended-lap heat races, consolations and the “Area 51”-lap feature
event. The “King of the Knob” has continued to grow in both payoffs and car counts over the past seasons and is both the highest paying event at Roaring Knob, and the track’s season finale.
Jason Covert of Lock Haven, PA is the two-time defending champion of the race.
Other previous winners are: 1998 Dave Groves, 1999 Tom Myers, 2000 Lynn Geisler, 2001 Dave Groves, 2002 Mike Benedum, 2003 Bobby Hill, 2004 Gary Dalton, 2005 Neil Brown.
UFo Super Late Model car rules and race procedures will be in effect with single file restarts being utilized. All drivers competing at Roaring Knob are required to use RACEceiver 1-way radios. Rentals will be available for drivers who do not possess a RACEceiver. The starting grid will consist of 26 starters, including 1 UFo and 1 track provisional.
Rounding out the racing program will be the Roaring Knob Late Model, E-mod, Street Stock and Charger classes. divisions will participate in features only, with the top 12 starting positions being determined by a draw of the top 12 present drivers in the point standings. A second draw would determine the rest of the starting order for drivers present but out of the top 12.
Payout for the UFo Super Late Models for the Ed & Scott Nicholson “King of the Knob 1st-$5,500 2nd-$2,000 3rd-$1,400 4th-$1,200 5th-$1,000 6th-$800 7th-$700 8th-$650 9th-$600 10th-$550 11th-$500 12th-$475 13th-$450 14th-$425 15th-$400 16th-$400 17th-$400 18th-$400 19th-$400 20th-$375 21st-$375 22nd-$375 23rd-$375 24th-$375 25th to 26th-$200. $100 tow money for any car that races and does not qualify for the feature. Super Late Model entry fee is $50, with no membership fees or tour license fees required.
Event sponsors include Ed Nicholson & Sons Lumber and Joseph Contracting. Pit gates will open at 3:00 PM, with spectator gates opening at 4:00, warm-ups at 5:00 and racing set to begin at 6:00. Adult general admission is $20, with children 10 and under being admitted free to the grandstand area. Pit passes are $30 for anyone that enters the pits. The rain date for the event is Saturday, September 13.

Speedway has moved their regular Saturday night program to Sunday, September 7. They will be featuring a full racing program of Super Late Models, Crate Late Models, E-mods, Pure Stocks, Amateur Stocks & Young Guns.
